Microsoft brands Management Reporter 2012 for Microsoft Dynamics® ERP as “a powerful Corporate Performance Management (CPM) solution that provides real-time financial reporting to help you achieve greater visibility across your organization”. Since its release about ten years ago, Microsoft developers have dedicated thousands of hours to its evolution to the CPM solution that it is today with Cumulative Update 15. There are changes on the horizon, though. Microsoft has “unofficially” decided that it will no longer continue development of Management Reporter for Microsoft Dynamics GP or SL – similar to how it discontinued development of Management Reporter for NAV two years ago. While Management Reporter is currently supported for GP 2016 and SL 2015, there is no confirmation from Microsoft that it will support integration with any later versions of GP or SL.
Will Management Reporter be discontinued all together? Probably not. Management Reporter will continue to be developed for future versions of Microsoft Dynamics AX. Ryan Sandness, Program Manager at Microsoft, did post to the MSDN blogs that Management Reporter in AX ‘7’ has been renamed ‘financial reporting’. This seems to be related to Microsoft’s continued direction of its products going to the cloud and Microsoft taking AX to the cloud but not GP and SL.
Rest assured that this announcement does not make Management Reporter less of a solution for your reporting needs. Management Reporter will continue serving as a solid financial reporting solution for GP and SL for many years to come. FRx, for that matter, is still being used by many clients today. True to our community commitment, we here at the MSX Group will be supporting Management Reporter for years to come, as we do for FRx, Forecaster and our own Prospero product line (which has just been enhanced to support Dynamics GP) as well. We will still be offering training classes, consulting services and software support (through our consulting team). We are available if clients or partners need assistance with installation work, report building, migrations from FRx or anything else related to Management Reporter for AX, GP or SL.
